I literally used to leave everything for Sunday. I would do ALL the laundry, clean the bathrooms, do meal prep, vaccume and mop, literally do it ALL on the last day of the week. I felt burnt out before work started on Monday and wondered why. I started introducing just doing 1 thing on my chore list a day, and I feel MUCH better on Sunday’s !! I want to give you the information that I took from online videos and articles because it is GOLD! Here are the 10 things that will hopefully help you stay more organized.
1. **Use a Planner**: Whether digital or paper, a planner helps you keep track of your tasks, appointments, and deadlines. I really like this one for keeping track of everything, I love the ones that are just satisfying to feel and look at.
2. **Prioritize Tasks**: Identify your most important tasks each day and focus on completing them first. The Eisenhower Matrix can be useful for this. I read a book once that was called, “Eat That Frog”, and it was all about how it’s important that we do the thing we want to do the least amount first. Sometimes the most important tasks are the ones we want to do the least, and we end up doing a bunch of other stuff instead of what we should be getting done first. Just remember how much better you will feel when you take the time to do the toughest thing because it will finally not be hanging over you.
3. **Create a Daily Routine**: Establishing a consistent routine can help streamline your day and reduce decision fatigue. You can carve out a time for when you will make your to-do list for the day, make sure you wake up when your alarm goes off (also make sure you go to bed when you said you would), and just perform the same healthy habits every day.
4. **Declutter Regularly**: Take time to declutter your workspace and living area, as a tidy environment can significantly improve focus and productivity. I have a trash bag that is hanging on the other side of my basement steps. It’s not pretty, but it is out of sight out of mind until I find something I don’t use or want anymore. It is usually some clothes that my kids have outgrown or just don’t like, but having a donation box/bag somewhere close will SAVE you in the long run, and staying organized and clean will be so much easier!
5. **Set Clear Goals**: Break down larger projects into smaller, actionable goals. This not only helps in tracking progress but also makes tasks less overwhelming. I believe that just taking 10 minutes to do something is better than leaving it alone all together! I love having a weekly chore schedule that keeps me organized because things don’t creep up on me like loads of laundry I forgot to do, or a super nasty bathroom because it has been a couple weeks since I cleaned it. I use these magnets to write down what I need to do and when. It is way easier to stick to this and keep my house looking clean and organized than it is to be willy nilly with everything.
6. **Use Digital Tools**: Utilize apps or software designed for organization, such as task managers (like Todoist or Trello) or note-taking apps (like Evernote). You could also set alarms to go off every day that tell you to get up at a certain time and get something done!
7. **Batch Similar Tasks**: Group similar tasks together to minimize transition time and improve efficiency. For example, set specific times for responding to emails, texts, and post comments if you are doing something on social media. A house chore example would be to pair bathroom cleaning and all the surfaces in your house that you know need cleaning since you will be using paper towels for both. I usually pair laundry with vacuuming as well, I know those aren’t similar, but once the clothes are all put away, it’s time to vacuum!
8. **Limit Distractions**: Identify what distracts you the most and find ways to limit those interruptions, whether it’s finding a quiet workspace or using website blockers. I turn off notifications to literally every app. I can check messenger when I have time, but I don’t need it to beep at me when every new message from a group chat comes. This is the same for shopping apps that I have on my phone. I really don’t need to stop my day to see that my favorite dress is on sale and then get sucked into online window shopping.
9. **Schedule Breaks**: Taking regular breaks can actually boost productivity, so plan short breaks throughout your day to recharge. I have heard that the one who schedules breaks is more likely to get more done and not burn out! I love making tea, playing relaxing music, opening my bible and just being with Jesus for a little bit. 🙂 I feel like the world looks WAY different when I spend time with Him.
10. **Reflect and Adjust**: Regularly review your organizational systems and make adjustments as needed. This helps ensure you are always improving and adapting to new challenges. Check to see if you are keeping up with the chores that you set out for yourself. If there is any area that is lacking, make sure you build in more time to do that particular thing. I know this doesn’t have to do with organizing, but in a way it does, my cooking has been lacking. I am finding that if nothing is planned for the week, we are WAY more likely to go out to eat. We are on a budget and going out to eat hurts our health and our finances. It’s way more enjoyable when you save up, and it’s on a weekend I feel like!:)
Honestly, just remember that no matter what you do, every little bit counts. I am proud of you for just going after it and reading this post. You will feel more in control of your life, and you will feel like going above and beyond once you master these habits. I hope this post helps, leave a comment below if you have anything to add, I love learning from other people too!:)
God Bless You 🙂
